Summer Reading Program 2013:

This summer, GGCA expects students entering grades 6 through 12 to read at least two faith hero biographies. As a Christian school, we hope to encourage our young people in their faith walks by reading about the lives of great men or women of faith.

Faith Hero Biography Assignment

Picture
As the student reads his or her chosen biographies, he or she should be on the lookout for the answers to the following questions:

1.What is the faith hero’s name? Did the faith hero’s name change?
2.Where and when was the faith hero born? 3.What was the faith hero’s parents and family like?
4.What was the faith hero’s childhood like?
5.What was the faith hero’s life like before he or she became a Christian?
6.What (and who) led the faith hero to becoming a Christian?
7.Where did the faith hero do his or her work for God? (Countries, cities, communities, etc.)
8.What type of ministry and practical work did the faith hero do? (Writing, preaching, Bible translation, medical, etc.)
9.What was the impact of this work on his or her time?
10.What were some notable quotes from the faith hero? Under what circumstances were the quotes made?
11.What external opposition and dangers did the faith hero face, how were these handled, and what kinds of problems were caused?
12.Who were the faith hero’s spouse and children, and what were they like? Was the family relationship strong or strained?
13.What organizations or trends were started based on the faith hero’s work?
14.What were the date, place, and circumstances of the faith hero’s death?
15.What is the lasting impact of the faith hero’s work for God?

When the student comes to school in September:
He or she must submit a document showing the answers to these fifteen questions for each faith hero.
        - Each answer should be at least two complete sentences in length.
This assignment is due by Wednesday, September 4.

Attached, you will find a four-page list of biographies that are available in some local libraries. You can also purchase them online or from your local Christian bookstore.

Heroes of the Faith Biographies

Listed beneath the names of the faith heroes are book titles and authors’ last names. This is not an exhaustive list. If you can find other missionary biographies to read, you are welcome to do so, as long as they are age and grade appropriate.
