Students used the game Life's a Pitch to begin their public speaking course. The had to choose an object from 5 object cards that they were given and explain how this object best fit the following scenario. Some scientists say this thing is the reason dinosaurs are extinct. Every time we listen to a speaker we need to use discernment. We have to ask ourselves why is this person speaking and what is it that they want? Are they a trust worthy source? How should I think about what it is that they are telling me?
Notice the differences between the two speeches, specifically the use of logic. The first speech is void of any logical reasoning stating why he should be the county treasurer or what he would actually do if elected to that office. This is your new blog post. Practice Constructive Criticism:
- What are some of the things that she did to reduce her credibility? This is a pretty bad example of public speaking, so what advice would you give her so that she will be able to communicate her ideas for effectively at the next city council meeting.
